If you are truly serious about real self-defense training that has the maximum potential to keep you safe and alive and to allow you to protect your loved ones, then we believe your only real choice is scenario-based adrenaline stress training.
Our Director of Instruction, Peyton Quinn, wrote the most influential book in the field “Real Fighting: Adrenal Stress Conditioning Through Scenario-Based Training,” identified by Black Belt Magazine as one of the five best books ever written on self-defense and martial arts. RMCAT has successfully trained hundreds of people with our unique approach to scenario-based training for over 20 years.
In our intensive three-day courses, you will not be learning new and fancy martial arts “techniques.” We will teach you only what is truly essential to actually defend yourself in a real-world attack.
A true self-defense course must:
- Teach the mind and modus operandi of the human predators and thus how to avoid them in the first place.
- Train people and have them practice in realistic adrenal stress scenarios the de-escalation of hostile and potentially aggressive people and thus avoid violence in the first place.
- Truly allow absolute full contact in the fight scenarios both the to the head and groin, the principle targets in self-defense situation and that armored assailant must truly press the student at their individual threshold. The armored assailant must put up a fight in order for the student to learn to deal with real fight.
RMCAT was one of the first to offer a comprehensive, short-term self-defense training course that address all three of these crucial elements. With our highly skilled instructors and our unique immersion approach, we can confidently say that we are still one of the best.
Intensive training in the heart of the Rockies
Students who attend the intensive RMCAT courses live and train together in an inspiring and beautiful retreat setting near Pike’s Peak in the Rocky Mountains.
RMCAT offers a total immersion experience. Think about learning a foreign language. What’s the best and quickest way? It is to go to the country were it is spoken and thus totally immerse yourself in that language. It is the same with teaching self-defense in all it aspects. The fact is that most people’s problems in a true self-defense situation, from de-escalation and conflict avoidance to the actual physical fight are mainly psychological and not a lack of “technique skills.” We will teach you all the skills you will need to defend effectively defend yourself, even if you come to RMCAT with no previous martial arts training. More importantly, we will give you direct experience of using those skills in extremely realistic attack scenarios. Our expert trainers will challenge you enough that you will have felt what it is like to overcome fear and fight like your life depends on it.
The group dynamic is an effective tool in “getting your mind right” about the use of violence when it is justified and there is no reasonable alternative. This is critical in actual self-defense because hesitation is the greatest enemy.
It would be no real psychological challenge to step into a prize ring or square off with another protected opponent. After all you know why you are there, you have chosen to be there, and you are mentally ready for a sparring match.
But it is the exact opposite in the real world with an actual aggressor: he chooses the time and the place and his mind is already prepared to inflict violence upon you.
Your biggest problem is to immediately “mentally catch up” so that you do not hesitate or go into denial under his threats or his physical attack. The group dynamic accelerates your confidence in making that mental transition. You have the total support and energy of the entire class.
As a reviewer wrote in www.realdefense.com: “Although courses in scenario-based adrenaline stress training are given throughout the United States, the reason you want to come to RMCAT is to experience it in concentrated form. Here, in view of the Rocky Mountains, with no TV or other distractions, you are talking shop 24/7 with your fellow attendees.”
